Two Atlantic City teens were arrested Monday after they allegedly fled a motor vehicle stop in a stolen car with a handgun inside.
Officers Ivaylo Ivanov and Wahab Malik tried to pull over two cars that went through a red light at about 8:30 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Baltic, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
One car pulled over, but the other fled east on Atlantic Avenue, then turned the wrong way down one-way Kentucky Avenue, according to the report.
The car then crashed with another car on Arctic Avenue, and the two teens were inside screaming for help.
EMS and the Fire Department were called, Fair said.
Isa Salaam and Khalif Chambers, both 18, were helped from the vehicle and taken into custody.
The car had been reported stolen from Pleasantville.
A loaded handgun with a high-capacity drum magazine and ammunition was found in the vehicle, Fair said.
Salaam had an active warrant for his arrest.
Both men allegedly first provided false names.
It was not determined who was driving, as both men were trying to get out of the vehicle and neither admitted to driving, Fair said.
The occupant of the other vehicle was not injured.
Salaam and Chambers were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, hindering apprehension, receiving stolen property, eluding, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine and conspiracy.
They are both being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
