A large altercation involving girls at Egg Harbor Township High School led to minor injuries for students and staff Thursday.
Principal Jacki Carugno sent a message to parents alerting them to the issue, and encouraging them "to speak with your child about conflict prevention."
"The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority," she wrote Thursday. "Today's incident was preventable and underscores the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment in our school."
Police were notified and were addressing the incident, Carugno said.
Police Capt. Cherie Burgan confirmed "a large altercation that involved several juvenile females inside the high school," to BreakingAC.
"From what I understand, they are all being disciplined by the school and juvenile complaints will be signed as appropriate as well," she said.
It appears the staff members' injuries were the result of trying to break up the altercation.
Carugno told parents that if they or their children become aware of any potential conflicts, "please immediately contact a staff member or administrator to prevent escalation."
