Teens injured in Egg Harbor Township crash

  • News

Four Egg Harbor Township High School students were injured in a crash before school Tuesday morning.

A 17-year-old was driving west on Mill Road when another vehicle went into the intersection at Tremont Avenue, according to the report.

The teen driver made “an evasive maneuver and lost control” of the vehicle, Lt. Cherie Burgan said.

He left the roadway to the left, sliding on the grass at striking a tree at 6220 Mill Road, according to the report.

There were two other 17-year-olds in the vehicle. The rear passenger and driver were taken to local hospitals to be treated.

The front passenger was trapped for about 45 minutes until members of the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company were able to free him, Burgan said.

He sustained multiple fractures to his legs and other internal injuries and was taken to Cooper Medical Center for treatment.

Traffic on Mill Road was detoured for about two hours while the crash was investigated.

The other driver was also 17, Lt. Cherie Burgan told BreakingAC.

“The actions of that driver and the role they played in the crash are still under active investigation, along with the actions of the driver who crashed his vehicle,” she said.

The school’s principal put out an email to parents Tuesday afternoon to let them know about the crash.

The email indicated all four involved are students there.

“All students have been medically evaluated at local medical facilities and the administrative team has been in contact with the students and parents involved,” Principal Jacki Carugno said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the students and their families at this time.”

NOTE: This story was updated to include information about the other driver.
