A mosquito sample from Somers Point has tested positive for West Nile virus, according to the Atlantic County Division of Public Health.
The sample was collected from the 100 block of Shore Road.
Public Health Officer Kara Janson confirmed there have been no human cases of West Nile virus in Atlantic County this year, despite multiple positive mosquito samples. Officials continue to conduct mosquito surveillance and implement control measures.
Atlantic County did have its first 2024 human and horse cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis in the state. EEE and West Nile virus are transmitted by infected mosquitoes.
