A Mays Landing man who failed to show up for his sentencing in a multi-agency drug case out of Ocean County is back in jail after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his infant son’s mother.

Khaadim Abdullah, 28, pleaded guilty Dec. 4, 2023, to distribution of more than five ounces of methamphetamine, after an Aug. 18, 2022, arrest that included searches of residences in Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Little Egg Harbor Township.

Police confiscated about 14 ounces of methamphetamine along with other drugs, a stolen handgun and $14,900 in cash, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said when his plea was announced. The agreement called for a 13-year sentence with no mandatory minimum time before he would be eligible for parole.

Abdullah was set to be sentence this past Dec. 13, but he failed to show up.

He then was pulled over last Tuesday for several traffic infractions in Winslow Township, Camden County. He gave the officer a fake driver’s license, according to the new charges.

In the meantime, he was with aggravated assault by strangulation against a domestic violence victim Feb. 27, after he allegedly broke into his former girlfriend’s home and escalated a verbal argument into a physical attack, according to Assistant Prosecutor Despina Hess.

He allegedly strangled the woman and then struck her on the side of the head with a  piece of wood he picked up at the scene, the affidavit states.

Defense attorney Stephen Funk said his client denies attacking the woman, and that there was no break-in because Abdullah was living there. It was the address he was released to on monitoring before his sentencing, Funk added.

The woman has notified the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office to ask that the charges be dropped, according to the defense.

Abdullah could live with his mother in Mays Landing if released, Funk said.

But Judge Joseph Levin agreed with the state and the public safety assessment, which recommended Abdullah be held.

Abdullah then asked the judge if he would be moved to the Ocean County jail.

The judge said he likely be moved to Ocean and Camden counties for any appearances there via what is called a “writ,” or a written order.

Otherwise, Abdullah will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending the outcome of his cases.
