A body has been found during the ongoing investigation into a house fire on North Ohio Avenue in Atlantic City.
At least two residents originally told BreakingAC that a woman had died in the fire, but the fire chief said that no one had been found.
But Monday, the city put out a statement confirming a body had been discovered in the aftermath of the blaze at 408 N. Ohio Ave.
The statement offered no details on when the body was discovered, or which agency made the discovery.
The victim's identity is not being released. BreakingAC has been told by those who spoke with the family that the victim was a woman.
The woman's boyfriend told people at the scene the night of the blaze that his girlfriend was inside, but several inquiries by BreakingAC led to the insistence that no one had been found.
The Atlantic City Fire Department, in conjunction with the Atlantic City Police Department, are actively investigating the fire.
The fire investigator was on scene the night of the blaze and again on Tuesday, Fire Chief Scott Evans told BreakingAC at the time. He said the investigator also had heard someone may be in side, but multiple crews had not been able to find anyone.
The owner of the rooming house initially said all of the occupants were safe.
More information will be released pending the result of that investigation, according to the release sent from the city.
Twelve people were displaced by the blaze that ripped through the rooming house April 6.
The call to the four-story rooming house at 408 N. Ohio Ave. came in at 7:26 Sunday night, Evans said.
There was heavy fire in the rear of the third and fourth floors.
A second alarm was called in with "all hands" on, Evans said.
