A Delaware woman charged with crashing her car into a Bridgeton hospital told police she was trying to get help.
Police were called to the Inspira Health Center Bridgeton just before 11:30 p.m. New Year's Eve for a motor vehicle that struck the building, police said.
April Love, 38, of New Castle, Dela., drove her 2017 four-door Kia through the ambulance bay entrance doors, continuing about 60 feet down the hallway and nearly striking a security officer, according to the report.
No injuries were reported, but Love was in a wheelchair during a brief appearance in court via video from the jail Thursday.
The damage is estimated at more than $135,000, according to the charges.
She was uncooperative at the hospital, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
But at the Bridgeton Police Department, she waived her Miranda rights, and told police she had been trying to get help.
She was upset with her mother-in-law while in Seabrook, Upper Deerfield Township, and was trying to get help to be admitted to crisis, the affidavit states.
"April stated no one would help her, (and) that's when she called police for help in State Police territory," the affidavit states.
When police got to the scene, she denied a ride to the hospital and said she wanted to drive herself with an escort.
Police left, and Love said she grabbed her keys and struck two vehicles in Seabrook before heading to Bridgeton, about five miles away.
When she saw the hospital, she "thought no one would help her so she decided to run through the double sliding door attempting to knock herself out, hoping her airbags would deploy in the vehicle," the affidavit reads.
She got out of the vehicle and was escorted to the emergency room section, where she waited for police, she said.
Love is jailed on third-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree charges of assault by auto and endangering another.
She is in the Cumberland County Jail.
She appeared briefly in court Thursday via video from the jail, where she was told she would have a detention hearing either Friday or next week.
Love also has several motor vehicle citations from Upper Deerfield Township, including reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash that caused damage to vehicles and property.
