The Pleasantville Fire Department welcomed potential future firefighters this past week.
A group of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders successfully completed the first Fire Cadet Summer Camp.
The four-day program that concluded Thursday was led by Fire Prevention Specialist Tim Housand.
Cadets learned fire safety, CPR, team work and firefighting basics through hands-on training with Pleasantville’s career firefighters.
The program wrapped up with a competence course, closing ceremony and pizza celebration.
“We’re proud of what these young cadets accomplished,” Fire Chief Keven Vanegas said. “This program is about building future leaders and showing them what public service is all about.”
He gave special thanks to Mayor Judy Ward, the city administration and City Council for supporting the initiative, and to the families and staff who helped make it a success.
"The department looks forward to continuing and expanding the program in the future," Vanegas said.
