An Atlantic City juvenile arrested in an armed robbery last year is now being tried as an adult.
Shadeem Dixon was 15 years old when he was arrested May 7, after he allegedly threatened a gas station attendant with a gun and then fled with two others.
Officer Kleovoulos Zissimopoulos was doing a property check at the Circle K in the 2000 block of Atlantic Avenue at 5:40 p.m. when the attendant flagged him down saying a group in a Jeep refused to pay the full amount for gas, and then the rear-seat passenger — later identified as Dixon — displayed a silver or gray handgun, according to police reports.
The Jeep was found parked in the lot of the third village in Stanley Holmes with the three suspects inside, and a high-risk stop was initiated, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
Dixon “continually put his hands towards his waistband, and he appeared to be reaching below the front driver’s seat,” the affidavit reads.
When he got out of the Jeep, police saw a bulge in his front waistband and ordered him to lift his shirt, which revealed a handgun, according to the affidavit.
The silver Taurus PT 24/7 Pro handgun had one round in the chamber and a 30-round magazine filled with 28 9mm ballpoint rounds, the affidavit states. It was equipped with a laser and rubber bands around the handgrip.
Dixon appeared before Judge Jorge Coombs via Zoom from a juvenile detention center in Camden on Friday.
“Part of his voluntary waiver to adult court contemplated we would not be requesting release,” attorney Andrew Imperiale told the judge. “We do hope to have this matter resolved in the adult court quickly.”
Despite being waived up for trial as an adult, the now-16-year-old will remain in juvenile detention.
Dixon faces eight charges, including first-degree armed robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery and several weapons offenses.
His co-defendants, Marahd Townsend and Yamaad Gilliam-Bey, were 18 and 19 at the time of the alleged crime, and both were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Both were additionally charged with employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.
Townsend, who was the driver, remains jailed. His last name is listed as Townsene in some records.
Gilliam-Bey is not listed as being incarcerated.
