Atlantic City man wanted in shooting, alleged accomplice tied to robberies

  • News

An Atlantic City man is wanted in a shooting that wounded two people after his alleged accomplice was arrested in three separate robberies.

Police were called to the Bank of America on Atlantic Avenue just after 10 a.m. Nov. 30, after a man handed the teller a note demanding money and indicating he had a gun, according to the report.

The suspect fled with a large amount of case. But a surveillance photo and description led Officer Christopher Inman to the suspect within the hour, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.

Edwin Ruiz-Rosa had changed his clothes, but Inman recognized him from the photo, Fair said.

When he was arrested, Ruiz-Rosa was found with a large amount of money and four grams of cocaine, according to the report.

An investigation led Street Crimes and Violent Crimes units to connect Ruiz-Rosa to two other robberies and a shooting.

He has now been charged with armed robberies Nov. 25 in the 2400 block of Atlantic Avenue, and one the next day at a store in the 2500 block, Fair said.

In each instance, the clerk was robbed and gunpoint, and then the suspect fled with cash from the register.

Ruiz-Rosa also has been connected to a shooting Nov. 27 in the 100 block of Texas Avenue. In that incident, one man had a graze wound. The other was bruised after a bullet struck his wallet.

As part of that investigation, detectives charged Henry Roman as an accomplice.

Roman, 37, of Atlantic City, is wanted on two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy.

Ruiz-Rosa, 25, of Pleasantville, is charged with three counts each of robbery and theft, four counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of aggravated assault, and a single count of criminal mischief, terroristic threats, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and conspiracy.

He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Note: The Atlantic County Justice Facility no longer provides mugshots to the media, citing the Atlantic County prosecutor’s order. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s part of the Attorney General’s Guidelines. There is no such guideline, according to the Attorney General’s Office, but they have told these offices for years that they should not release any photos that appear to be mugshots.
