A Mays Landing man was critically injured when he lost control of his car and struck a tree Saturday afternoon.
Jason Dougherty, 29, was thrown from the vehicle after going off the roadway just after passing another car as he was heading north on Elwood Road near milepost 4.1 just after 1 p.m., police said.
He was not wearing his seatbelt.
Dougherty sustained serious injuries and was flown to Cooper University Hospital, police said.
Traffic was diverted around the scene for about three hours as police investigated and debris was cleared from the road.
Mullica Township police and AtlantiCare EMS assisted.
