Atlantic City teen arrested with loaded gun

  • News
A teen was arrested with a handgun in Atlantic City on Sunday, after someone spotted him and called 911. The incident highlights a recent spate of citizen calls, and even action, that seems to show an improved relationship with law enforcement, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The capture of a burglary suspect, a drug arrest and another gun arrest were all aided by calls from the community, Fair said. Even the capture of a suspect in the Mother's Day killing of Keith Cundiff Jr. just hours after it happened was helped by calls and tips, Fair said. "We're seeing that more and more frequently," Fair said. "This has got to be a partnership between all of us." He said he believes it has been aided by police outreach, including a Community Relations Unit and walking patrols. "The community sees that we are trying to do what we can to make Atlantic City a better and safer place," he said. "I think the community's engaged with us in this fight against all the crime that has taken place." On Sunday evening, police went to North Florida Avenue at 5 p.m., after a 911 call warning of a man with a handgun. Officer Cristian Ivanov found the suspect, a 17-year-old male who had a loaded handgun in his waistband. His name is not being released due to his age. The teen was sent to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
