A 16-year-old Absegami High School student was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly brandished an imitation firearm at another student.
School staff immediately placed the school into "shelter in place," Chief Donna Higbee said. The surrounding elementary schools were also locked down as a precaution.
When officers arrived, they quickly found the student — identified only as J.E. — with the weapon inside his book bag. It was then determined to be an imitation firearm.
There were no injuries.
J.E. was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession within an educational institution, disorderly conduct and harassment/causing alarm. He was processed and released pending a court appearance.
