Fund-raiser benefits family who lost home in fiery drunken-driving crash

  • News
Noranne Thompson and Stephen Weiss decided last year that they wanted the music to mean more than just putting on a show. The couple who own the Atlantic City-based production and promotion company NorStep decided that their monthly acoustic showcases would be the place to start. Then an allegedly drunken-driver crashed into two stores on Atlantic Avenue early Christmas morning, displacing a mom and her three little girls who lived in an apartment upstairs. https://breakingac.com/man-arrested-after-crashing-stolen-truck/ “It kind of hit home,” Weiss said. “And to see that there were three little girls that had no home, it broke our hearts. So, we felt it was our responsibility to help our neighbor.” The result is Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a benefit being held Saturday at Proud Mary’s, 3209 Fairmount Ave. in Atlantic City. Rebecca Yuro, her 3-year-old and twin 2-year-olds were allowed to grab just a few trash bags full of belongings before the home was boarded up, she said. All of the furniture is damaged by smoke. She said Weiss and Thompson are amazing people. “It's been one bad thing after the next since the accident Christmas morning for me and my family,” she said. “It's (Weiss and Thompson) and people like them that have made this terrible accident bearable and brought smiles to me and my three daughters’ faces. And just would like to give a big thanks to everyone who is (helping) and has helped us in this difficult time, especially with this event coming up.” Thirteen acoustic acts volunteered their time to play, Weiss said. The event begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and runs until 2 a.m., with music, drink specials and raffles. Tickets are $10 at the door. Weiss said things like household items, clothing and toys for the girls will also be collected that night. Yuro also has a GoFundMe page where people can help. https://www.gofundme.com/ymem9-please-help-us-rebuild-our-life
