Atlantic City surveillance officers help catch teens assaulting man

  • News
Two Atlantic City teens were arrested after Surveillance Center officers saw them assaulting a man with a replica handgun Monday night. The officers were watching the Boardwalk cameras at about 9:30 p.m., when they saw a 15-year-old take what appeared to be a handgun out of his backpack and hand it to a 16-year-old in the beach block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The teens then chased after a 29-year-old Pleasantville man, kicking him and punching him to the ground, according to the report. The teens then fled onto the boardwalk, where surveillance personnel continued to monitor them until responding officers arrived and arrested them. The 15-year-old dropped the replica handgun as officers arrived, Fair said. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus with non-life threatening injuries. They are both charged with Simple assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The 16-year-old was additionally charged with aggravated assault. They were released to their parents. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
