Group 'pops up' with Thanksgiving for homeless

  • News
Thanksgiving will be popping up early for the homeless in Atlantic City and Pleasantville. Indra Lynn Owens and Automne Bennett started "Thanksgiving To Go" last year with a goal of reaching 300 people with their ready-made dinners. They wound up doubling that to 600, which is where this year's goal begins. Owens and Bennett have made it their mission to help those in need while also empowering girls and women. That gave birth to their Princess Inc., which sponsors the now-annual event. Their second annual pop-up banquet set for Saturday. Volunteers will be taking the meals to several locations. "It's going to be more epic than last year, with some new collaborators," said Owens, pointing to partners like Stockton University and Caesars Atlantic City. They also added Pleasantville to the mix, with the town's Recreation Center staff picking up about 100 dinners to serve to their growing homeless population. Atlantic City's Peace Keepers are also assisting. The group's members will be meeting at Renaissance Plaza at noon to help hand out meals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoAGTJXrLtI&feature=youtu.be
