Mainland teacher allegedly exposed himself while working as Ocean City lifeguard

  • News

A Mainland Regional High School teacher was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself while working at a lifeguard in Ocean City in July.
Christopher Denn, 48, was arrested Aug. 9 and charged with criminal sexual contact for touching himself and showing his private part to the female victim without her consent, while working July 29 on the Surf Road beach, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
He additionally was charged with committing a lewd and offensive act where he knew it was likely to be seen by non-consenting children younger than 13.
“Chris is a family man with an impeccable reputation as a teacher/coach and respected long -time member of the beach patrol,” his attorney, John Tumelty, told BreakingAC. “We’re looking forward to a swift resolution.”
Denn allegedly exposed himself at about 2 p.m., while in the lifeguard stand with 300 to 500 patrons on the beach, the affidavit states.
The victim reported him to co-workers.
"We were recently made aware of allegations about one of our staff members, which occurred outside of Mainland Regional High School," Superintendent Mark Marrone said in a written statement. "We take all such allegations seriously and will evaluate the matter and respond as necessary. However, we do not comment on personnel matters. We will continue to enforce our commitment to Mainland being a safe place for our students and staff."
Both are fourth-degree crimes, which usually do not carry jail time.
