Woman charged in infant's accidental drug overdose

A woman has been charged with the accidental drug overdose of aninfant this summer in Hamilton Township.
Shannon Devine, 37, of Atlantic City, was arrested last month on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police were called to Oakmont Drive at about 10:30 p.m. July 8, for an unresponsive 7-month-old, police said.
The baby was treated by the Township of Hamilton Rescue and AtlantiCare Paramedics, and taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (city division). The infant and later was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for further treatment.
After an extensive investigation by Hamilton Township police detectives and members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit, it was found the baby overdosed on narcotics. Police did not specify what drugs they were.
The baby is fully recovered and was no longer living with the mother.
Devine is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a court appearance.
The Division of Child Protection and Permanency assisted with the investigation.
