At least one business won’t be doing Atlantic City.
Keystone Novelties is still waiting to find out what happened to more than $28,000 worth of fireworks that disappeared from a tent behind the city’s Ducktown Tavern last summer.
It’s “incredibly frustrating,” Keystone Managing Director Jack May told BreakingAC. “I will not be doing business in A.C. this year.”
Surveillance video obtained by radio host Harry Hurley and shared by BreakingAC seemed to show boxes being loaded from the tent into police cars and a truck by uniformed officers.
“The same night that the product disappeared, two Atlantic City police officers in uniform, while on duty using police vehicles were on videotape removing cases and cases and cases of product with support from the contractor hired to conduct the sale,” May wrote in an email sent to an Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office detective, a member of the Department of Justice and Atlantic City Police Chief Henry White.
In the email sent last month, May says the detective in the case told him back in October that they would meet after he reviewed credit card receipts.
That meeting never happened and the detective has not returned calls, May said.
The value of the missing fireworks was first estimated at more than $16,000, but May's email now puts the amount at $28,399.24.
Emails sent to the police chief also have gone unanswered, he said.
In his latest email, May alleges that there appears to be an attempted cover up to say that this “was a legitimate transaction that occurred under the cover of darkness with no funds coming to the company who owned the fireworks.”
“This remains a pending investigation,” Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Donna Weaver told BreakingAC.
"I just want to know why it’s taking so long," said Ducktown owner John Exadaktilos.
