10-year-old shot at Pleasantville football game has died

  • News

The little boy who garnered the love and support of a community after being critically wounded in a shooting at a high school football game has died, the prosecutor announced Wednesday afternoon.

Micah Tennant, 10, was a fighter, his mother has said as she kept friends and family posted on his condition from his bedside.

But he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.

“On behalf of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the Tennant family on the tragic passing of Micah," Tyner said. "Words at this time seem so insufficient to portray the anger and outrage that our community feels regarding his loss. However, his spirit will live on in so many people that he inspired.."

Alvin Wyatt is now charged with murder.

Alvin Wyatt, who was charged with three counts of attempted murder in the shooting, is now charged with murder.
Earlier in the morning, family had asked that nothing be posted to social media until his mother approved it. But the announcement — made by many before the boy had passed away — continued to be shared across Facebook and on other platforms.

The news came just more than an hour before the Pleasantville Greyhounds were set to resume the interrupted game against the Camden Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field.

A detention hearing for Thursday for Wyatt has now been postponed to next week. The four men accused of fleeing the scene with a gun will be in court Thursday.
