An Egg Harbor Township man has been charged in a shooting that killed an Atlantic City man in the township's last month.
Devon Hill, 28, told investigators he went to 201 Cedar Ave. on Nov. 21 to help a longtime friend confront Rennel Turner over an earlier altercation, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
But Hill wound up getting into his own fight with Turner, took out his gun and shot Turner multiple times, the affidavit states.
"Defendant's account was confirmed by multiple witnesses," the investigator wrote.
The name of Hill's friend has not been released. It was unclear if that person would be charged.
Hill is charged with aggravated manslaughter, a first-degree crime just under murder, and two second-degree weapons offenses.
Turner, 54, was found lying unconscious in the driveway of the Cedar Avenue home at about 7 p.m.
Turner had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Township and Pleasantville police responded to the shooting.
An autopsy determined Turner’s manner of death is homicide and the cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds.
The Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the township police are jointly investigating the case.
A second shooting in the township's Zion Park wounded a 19-year-old about an hour and a half later. No arrests have been announced in that case.
