An Atlantic City man with a history of gun and drug charges was arrested Tuesday after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor, crashing a stolen car and ditching a loaded gun.
Cyril Roary was one of seven people arrested while Atlantic City police were patrolling Pacific Avenue to combat drug and prostitution, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Sgt. Richard Andrews and Detective Darrin Lorady were conducting surveillance in the 3000 block of Pacific at about 4:15 p.m., when they saw a vehicle speeding, Fair said.
The car, driven by Roary, then stopped and picked up a woman believed to be involved in prostitution, according to the report.
When Andrews tried to stop the car, Roary sped away and turned down Ohio Avenue going the wrong way down the one-way street, Fair said.
Andrews stopped the chase for safety concerns after Roary struck a traffic sign and almost hit a pedestrian, according to the report.
But then officers were called to Ohio and Arctic avenues, where the vehicle was left disabled after Roary struck two vehicles, according to the report.
Officer Lisa Kaplan-Caldwell arrived just after the vehicle was abandoned and arrested Jazmine Nunez trying to run, Fair said. Nunez, 20, of Absecon, was arrested on an active warrant, and later released.
Lorady caught Roary running on Baltic Avenue, Fair said. Roary had 150 bags of heroin and a small amount of marijuana. Detectives then found a hat and jacket Roary discarded while running, and found a loaded gun along with a magazine inside the jacket, Fair said.
While detectives were completing their investigation, the owner of the vehicle Roary was driving called 911 to report it stolen. The owner had left the keys inside the vehicle when Roary took it, police said. Roary was also found to have removed his electronic monitoring bracelet that was applied due to pre-trial release conditions from previous charges.
His past arrests included a gun charge in 2016, which he was given a suspended sentence.
The man he was arrested with is serving a five-year sentence in the Southern State Correctional Facility, records show.
The day of arrests began at about 2:20 p.m., when Detective James Barrett saw Altyriek Warren making separate drug sales to two city women in the 2600 block of Pacific, Fair said.
Kimberly Richmond, 31, and Beth Donnelly, 34, were both charged with cocaine possession and released on summonses.
Warren, 30, of Atlantic City, had 10 bags of cocaine and a bag of marijuana, Fair said. He was charged with distribution and possession offenses, and jailed.
The Atlantic City man has previous convictions involving a 2010 defaced firearm charge and a 2014 drug case, court records show.
The man and woman with him, Clarence Blunt and Brittney Dechoudens, both had active warrants, according to the report.
Blunt, 22, of Pleasantville, was found with six bags of heroin, according to the charges. Both he and Dechoudens, 28, of Atlantic City, were jailed on their warrants.
