An Atlantic County couple were arrested Sunday, after fleeing in a stolen vehicle, Atlantic City police said.
Officer Joseph Kelly tried to stop the pair after he recognized the stolen car just after 9 p.m., Lt. Kevin Fair said.
But the driver, Jason Sandfort, sped away, according to the report.
Sandfort then crashed into a parked car in the 100 block of North Florida Avenue, Fair said.
He then ran from the car leaving behind passenger Samantha Buglioli, who allegedly gave a false name. She was identified later through fingerprinting.
The officer caught Sandfort about a half-block away and took him into custody after some resistance, Fair said.
A small amount of heroin and methamphetamine was recovered, along with three types of prescription medication and narcotic paraphernalia.
Sandfort, 49, of Mullica Township, was charged with theft, eluding, receiving stolen property, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, contempt of court, and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He also was charged with multiple motor vehicle summons.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
