“Tonight we straight out of Jersey,” LL Cool J told the crowd gathered at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.
While the show was live from Newark’s Prudential Center, South Jersey had at least one representative there.
Alvin Parker Jr., an Atlantic County native, was chosen by MTV as one of Nicki Minaj’s Super Fans.
Minaj was given the Video Vanguard Award, the show’s version of a lifetime achievement award.
Barbz — as her fans are dubbed — were highlighted during that segment, and in videos posted by MTV.
“We all have our hard days, and Nicki Minaj is something that keeps us up,” Parker says in one clip posted to MTV’s TikTok. Nicki Minaj is somebody that gave us that confidence that we needed.”
“Winning! Winning,” he says in another that shows a mix of fans reacting to the news. “Do y’all see the material? Come on. Come on. Put some respect on her name.”
Minaj thanked her fans during the live ceremony, where Parker was among those in the audience. He even got to walk the red carpet.
“They chose me to film, get styled and walk the red carpet,” Parker told BreakingAC just hours before the show started. I’ll also attending the show tonight.
“They chose me because of my business and my love for Nicki Minaj,” said the owner of Platters Galore, a catering business that specializes in baked goods and different kinds of cuisine.
Parker has lived in Mays Landing and Galloway Township, and graduated from the Atlantic County Institute of Technology in 2018.
