A Vineland man was arrested for brandishing a gun in Atlantic City after officers in the Surveillance Center helped track him down, police said.
Officers in the center saw two groups in an altercation at about 4:10 a.m. Saturday in the area of California Avenue and the Boardwalk, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.
During the altercation, a man in one of the groups was seen taking out a handgun and pointing it toward the other group, according to the report.
The groups then went their separate ways, Aristizabal said.
Surveillance Center personnel tracked the group with the armed man as they went east on the Boardwalk, according to the report. The group eventually exited the Boardwalk at Arkansas Avenue.
Officers Sean Pettit and Julian Cuellar found the group in the beach block of Arkansas Avenue approaching Pacific Avenue, Aristizabal said. K9 Officer Michael Braxton and his partner Ryker, arrived as backup and assisted in stopping the group.
Jahlil Walker, who matched the description of the suspect, was found with a loaded handgun fitted with a high-capacity magazine, Aristizabal said. He also had various pills.
Walker, 22, was taken into custody without incident.
Officers also determined it was a “ghost gun,” a firearm that lacks a serial number rendering the weapon difficult to trace.
Walker is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a ‘ghost gun,’ possession of a high-capacity magazine and possession of CDS.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
