The family of an Atlantic City man is looking for answers after he was found unconscious and bleeding on the street more than a week ago.
Tony Regley, 50, often rode his bicycle through the city.
His bicycle was found near him around 2 a.m. June 4, when he was discovered severely injured on the median in the 200 block of N. North Carolina Avenue.
Police say they received a call that someone fell off a bicycle around that time. A detective is now trying to determine whether it was a crash or an assault.
But Regley's family says there is no way the injuries he suffered were from a crash.
"The bike doesn't even have a scratch on it," said Belinda Legette, who shares two teenage children with Regley.
Regley suffered a closed-head injury, cervical spine fractures and multiple facial trauma, according to hospital paperwork provided by the family.
He underwent surgery Tuesday, to repair his eye socket, niece Di-Avian Blackmon said.
"There's no way you get all those injuries falling off a bike," Legette said.
Regley remains sedated and has not been able to talk.
The family doesn't even know who found him. They only learned Regley was in the hospital after someone tried calling his cell phone, and got a nurse instead.
"She asked for a family member to come identify him because she believed he was attacked by someone," Blackmon said.
Legette went back to the scene the next day with their children and found his bloody sweatshirt.
"Why am I still driving around with this sweatshirt?" she asked. "Why didn't (the police) want it? There could be two different blood types on it."
She also found an EMT bag and bloody collar left behind, and took pictures of surveillance cameras she believed may have captured what really happened.
As the family continues to monitor Regley's progress, they hope someone may have seen something that will let them know what really happened.
