Atlantic, Cape police agencies help boy battling cancer toward dream goal

  • Sunday Special

A Texas boy battling brain and spinal cancer is now an honorary local officer 30 times over.

Devarjaye "D.J." Daniel made it his mission to be sworn in by 100 law enforcement agencies.

He has long passed his goal.

On Friday, agencies from Atlantic and Cape May counties helped as he eases toward 500.

A mass honorary swearing-in at Ocean City's Music Pier was hosted by Longport police and attended by 29 other law enforcement agencies.

D.J.'s new "brothers in blue" include Atlantic City, Hammonton, Pleasantville, Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township.

His next goal is to reach 758 agencies, in honor of Abigail Arias, a young girl from Houston who lost her battle with cancer.

Arias, who passed away at 7, was sworn in as a police officer and Texas Ranger in Freeport. Her badge number was 758.
