Two teens were arrested with guns after a detective got a tip that they were armed on the Boardwalk.
A 15-year-old from Egg Harbor City brandished a gun after running from Sgt. Darrin Lorady on Friday night.
Detective Christopher Dodson got information that two juvenile boys were on the Boardwalk near Arkansas Avenue just after 10 p.m., Lt. Kevin Fair said.
As officers converged on the group, the two juveniles fled, according to the report.
The 15-year-old took a gun from his waistband and turned toward Lorady, who gave commands to drop the gun, Fair said. The teen complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
A 16-year-old from Atlantic City discarded a handgun as officers moved in on him, according to the report. He was quickly arrestd.
“I commend our officers and surveillance personnel for their exceptional dedication and swift action in apprehending two offenders while recovering two dangerous weapons,” Police Chief James Sarkos said. “Our officer’s proactive approach coupled with the investments we have made in technology helped to resolve this situation quickly."
Both teens were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
The 15-year-old was additionally charged with possession of hollow-point ammunition.
Both males were taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility.
