GoFundMe to help Cape woman seriously injured in EHT hit-run

  • News

Jacklyn Reinhart turned 25 on Sunday.

But it had a special meaning for the North Cape May woman who remains hospitalized following a hit-and-run in Egg Harbor Township.

"I’ve never been so grateful to be alive," Reinhart wrote in a Facebook post Monday.

Police are still investigating the incident that left Reinhart with a myriad of injuries, including a concussion, four herniated discs, spinal and neck injuries, fractured orbital bones, fractured jaw, broken nose with gravel embedded under the skin and loose and broken teeth.

Reinhart was already in the road on Ocean Heights Avenue near English Creek when the truck struck her May 19, police previously said.

The truck continued west without stopping.

It was described as a black or dark-colored pick-up truck with an elevated suspension, oversized wheels and tires, and tinted windows all the way around the vehicle.

Police did not detail how Reinhart ended up in the road. But a GoFundMe set up by her mother gives some insight.

Reinhart had gone to dinner that night with a person who the GoFundMe does not identify.

There was an argument inside the vehicle that turned physical, and Reinhart called 911, her mother writes.

At that point, her phone was thrown out the car window. When Reinhart got out to get it, the driver "gunned the gas as she begged to be let back into the car," her mother writes.

Instead, the driver continued, dragging Reinhart across the asphalt into the intersection before leaving her there, according to her mother.

Less than 30 seconds later, the truck ran her over, throwing her into the nearby grass, her mother writes.

"I’ve been working on recovering both physically and mentally from this whole situation," Reinhart wrote Monday, in her first social media post since she was injured. "This is the hardest thing I’ve ever went through and I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate each and every one of you and your endless love and support."

It's also expensive, her mother writes, saying the minimum of six upcoming surgeries are estimated to cost more than $350,000. Reinhart also lost her home as a result of the incident.

While her mother is careful not to give too many details of the initial incident "due to the ongoing legal aspects of the situation," Reinhart did hashtag her post #domesticviolenceawareness.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the truck or driver is asked to call Egg Harbor Township Police Traffic Safety Unit at 609-926-4045.
