Atlantic City police arrested an Absecon man in a stolen vehicle just hours after he was released on a similar charge, police said.
Adam Ross is now jailed. But his alleged accomplice in the first case is being sought after it was discovered she gave police her sister's information.
Caitlin Rainey, 33, of Northfield, now faces additional charges of identity theft and hindering.
The tangled tale began just before 7 p.m. Sunday, when Officer John Bell found an unoccupied minivan in the first block of Tennessee Avenue, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
The minivan had been reported stolen earlier in the day, according to the report.
Ross and Rainey were seen leaving the vehicle, and taken into custody, Fair said.
Both were released on summonses due to the grading of charges, Fair told BreakingAC.
Rainey told police her name was Aine Wallace, and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for a medical complaint, Fair said Thursday, a day after putting out information identifying the woman as Wallace.
Wallace apparently notified police that she was not the one charged.
By then, her sister already had been released from the hospital.
Meanwhile, Bell again found a stolen vehicle at 2:12 a.m. Monday, in the first block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Fair said.
Bell stopped the vehicle and found Ross behind the wheel, according to the report.
The vehicle had just been stolen minutes earlier, while the owner was standing outside of it arguing with someone, Fair said.
Ross, 33, was given a second set of theft and receiving stolen property charges, and jailed on a warrant after the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office was consulted, Fair said.
Rainey remains wanted. Anyone who knows her whereabouts is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (841477), beginning the text with ACPD.
