Occupants wanted after fleeing Atlantic City crash that took out electric pole

  • Public Safety

Atlantic City police are looking for two people who fled a car after it took out an electrical pole along the Black Horse Pike early Saturday morning.

Police from Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township were called to the area near mile marker 62 at 2:25 a.m. for the report of an overturned vehicle and a downed pole, Atlantic City police said.

A witness reported that he observed a Gray Volkswagen Jetta leave the roadway, collide with the pole, and overturn, Capt. Kevin Fair said. Two occupants got out of the damaged car and fled in another vehicle that stopped for them.

A description of the fleeing vehicle was not released.

The downed pole led to a power outage and block roadway for several hours.

Atlantic City Electric responded and repaired the damaged pole.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5744. Information also may be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
