The Eagles are the only thing that stands in the way of the Kansas City Chiefs becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and company edged out Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in another instant-classic postseason matchup between the two teams, winning 32-29. It's the third straight AFC title for the Chiefs, and the fifth time in six years that they will play in the Super Bowl.
It will be a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, or as much as any game two years later in the NFL can be a rematch. Obviously, the Chiefs erased a 24-14 halftime deficit to defeat the Eagles 38-35 in that game, which is considered one of the best Super Bowls in NFL history.
The most obvious difference between now and then is that this iteration of the Eagles has Saquon Barkley, the likely Offensive Player of the Year. Between the regular and postseason, the Eagles' running back has rushed for a staggering 2,447 yards in 2024.
On Feb. 9 — Barkley's 28th birthday — the Eagles will meet the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. They'll have their work cut out trying to prevent the Chiefs from further enhancing their dynasty.
