A special school board meeting set to discuss the Atlantic City High School basketball coach vacancy has been canceled.
The announcement came hours after a judge reinstated Gene Allen and set a hearing date.
The failure to renew Allen at the last Board of Education meeting sparked community outrage and left questions for the team, which already had started tryouts.
Assistant Coach Elijah Langford was serving in the interim position but remained adamant that he was not looking to take over the position and does not agree with decision not to renew Allen, who he called a mentor.
It was canceled "on the advice of legal counsel," Board Secretary Angie Brown wrote to board members in an email Wednesday.
