A search continues for a still-unconfirmed missing swimmer, Atlantic City police said.
Police and firefighters were called to the 500 block of the beach just after 9 p.m. for the report of a possible missing swimmer, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers located a family who said they saw a man go into the ocean, but never saw him come back out.
The U.S. Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police searched the ocean by boat and helicopter, but no one was found. They discontinued the search overnight, Fair said.
First responders returned to search Tuesday morning.
There have been no reports of a missing person and there were no unattended belongings found in the area where he allegedly went into the water, Fair said.
The description of the swimmer is a 5-foot-10 white man with dark hair in his 40s or 50s, last seen wearing dark colored shorts. He also had noticeable sunburn on his torso.
Anyone with information is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
