Atlantic City man gets 12 years in boyfriend's 2017 killing

Faheem Harris (Atlantic County Justice Facility)

An Atlantic City man who admitted fatally stabbing his longtime boyfriend in 2017, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday.

Faheem Harris, 36, must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, or just more than 10 years, under the plea agreement.

He will get credit for the two years he has been in the Atlantic County jail.

Harris has said he "poked" 38-year-old Daimyen Mortimore with a steak knife after the two got into an argument while drinking on March 23, 2017.

Mortimore had seemed fine after that, taking a shower and going to bed, Harris told the court.

Mortimore later died of a stab wound to the chest.

“I didn’t do what I should have done, (which) was called 911,” Harris said at the court appearance in 2017. “When he said he was alright, I should have done it.”

He is to have no contact with Mortimore's family as part of his sentence.
