A man released from prison in February is now accused of several car burglaries in Ventnor.
Malcolm Newton, 34, was arrested Sunday night, after a resident reported a man burglarizing their car, Capt. Joe Fussner said.
Police were called to South Baton Rouge Avenue just after 11 p.m.
A track search by K-9 Officer Marc Franco Jr.'s partner, Joker, led to Newton caught in the act on South Vassar Square, according to the report.
Newton, whose first name is some times listed as Malcom, was found with property later determined to be from several other motor vehicle burglaries in Ventnor, Fussner said.
The investigation by Officer Alec Fendrick determined that all the vehicles that were entered by Newton were left unlocked. Newton was charged with eight counts of burglary, six counts of theft and possession of burglar tools.
He was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Newton was released from prison in February after serving 1½ years for theft, drug possession and forgery, according to Department of Corrections records.
He also pleaded guilty 10 years ago in a case where he admitted holding a woman against her will and forcing her into prostitution, records show. He was sentenced to four years in prison in that case, which was prior to the state's human trafficking laws.
