An Atlantic City man accused of shooting into a group sitting at a picnic table was ordered held in jail Tuesday.
Dane Crippen Jr., 21, was awaiting sentencing on a drug charge when he was arrested a week ago, according to information given at his detention hearing. He faced a probationary term in that case.
Surveillance video shows Crippen shooting into a seated group in the 1500 block of Adriatic Avenue, and then running from the scene and concealing an object at Kentucky and Mediterranean avenues, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Crippen was arrested trying to hide in tall grass, police said. A gun was recovered along the path he ran.
The defense has not yet seen that video, Crippen's attorney, Yvonne Maher, told the judge.
But what is seen in a report is often very different than what is seen on video, she said.
Crippen has a significant juvenile criminal history, including 18 filings and 11 convictions, Assistant Prosecutor Rick McKelvey said.
His history includes two aggravated assaults and gun possession, Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor said in making her decision to have Crippen detained.
He will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending the outcome of his case.
