Complaints of alleged misconduct by Linwood's police chief has led the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office to take over day-to-day operations.
The department came under the statutory authority of the Prosecutor's Office effective Jan. 1, after allegations against Chief John Hamilton, Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Monday.
No details of the allegations were released.
“As such, I am compelled to exercise the authority over the day-to-day activities of the Linwood Police Department until further notice,” Tyner said.
Linwood City Council placed Hamilton on paid administrative leave and named Capt. Jason Weber the acting chief while the investigation is ongoing.
