A Little Egg Harbor Township woman found dead shortly after she called 911 early Saturday morning was apparently killed by her former husband who then turned the gun on himself.
Kimberly Hoffman, 49, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the face by police responding to the 5:10 a.m. call of someone trying to break into her apartment on Whitemarsh Court, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Little Egg Harbor Township Chief James Hawkins said Monday.
A dog with apparent gunshot wounds was found as well. Police also located Carl Schultz Jr., 52, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Schultz was was conscious when police arrived, but was pronounced dead after arriving at the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
The mother of two sons from a previous marriage was mourned her on Facebook by those who talked of beautiful and giving person.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help her two teenage sons.
Hoffman "had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need," the GoFundMe reads. "As a dedicated mother, she poured her love into her two children, making sure they felt safe, loved and cherished every day."
Hoffman and Schultz were married in 2019, according to her Facebook. It was unclear when they separated.
