A text to Atlantic City's anonymous tip line led to a loaded handgun and the arrest of a man who already served time on gun charges.
Tip411 got a text Monday, in reference to a man who put a firearm in the rear of an apartment building in the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers Joseph Kelly Jr. found the gun in a crawl space that was accessible to the public, according to the report.
An investigation by Kelly and Sgt. Garry Stowe, along with assistance from Detective Christopher Dodson, led them to identify Quanife Wynn as the person who discarded the gun, Fair said.
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Wynn was spotted by Dodson, and Detectives Alberto Valles and James Barrett on Wednesday in the area of Tennessee and Atlantic avenues, according to the report.
He ran when they approached, but was taken into custody, Fair said.
Wynn had marijuana packaged for distribution on him at the time, according to the charges.
He was arrested two weeks earlier, also on drug charges and resisting, court records show. At that time, Wynn was released on a summons.
Now, he is jailed on charges including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Wynn was just 18 when he picked up two gun charges within five months in 2018, records show.
Wynn pleaded guilty in both cases and was sentenced to five years in prison in 2019, records show.
It was not clear when he was released, but he did have a driving without a license charge this past September.
He will now remain jailed pending a detention hearing.
