A Hammonton man and woman were indicted on animal cruelty charges after their dog suffered a drug overdose last year.
Police were called to the Walmart on Nov. 17, for a dog in distress, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Officers found a Yorkshire terrier unresponsive and unable to breathe, according to the charges. A bystander was trying to help the dog.
An investigation determined the dog was exposed to heroin by its owners.
The dog was given a pediatric dose of Narcan, and was instantly revived and stabilized.
Clinton Danks, 58, and Kristina Meyers, 37, were indicated on third-degree charges of animal cruelty and heroin possession.
They were not jailed.
