Some Atlantic City students had their own winter wonderland this week.
Texas Avenue School transformed its gymnasium Thursday for the Santa’s Workshop Toy Giveaway.
The kids were greeted by Principal Lina Gil.
"This is a good way for children to experience the holidays differently," she said. "It’s all about happiness and being kind to each other."
Each student was given the opportunity to choose two items.
Some eagerly selected toys for themselves, their faces lighting up with happiness. But others used the opportunity to shop for their siblings, demonstrating thoughtfulness and generosity.
“They’re very selfless,” said Alyssa Acree, the school guidance counselor who organized the event along with Literacy Coach Julie Craig.
The assortment of toys was vast and varied, catering to a multitude of interests.
There were dolls, plush teddy bears, intricate puzzles, action figures, footballs, basketballs and even art supplies for budding artists.
The children explored the tables, and their laughter filled the gymnasium as they made their selections.
Acree said the primary sponsors for the event were Boxx4Tots, of Margate, and the Assumption School, in Galloway Township.
A photo booth was set up, complete with festive props and a backdrop of a winter scene. The children took turns posing for pictures with Santa, the Grinch, or school staff dressed in costumes.
A festive polar bear was also on hand for pictures.
The Santa’s Workshop Toy Giveaway was more than just a simple holiday event, it was a celebration of kindness, generosity and the joy of giving.
“I love this event,” Gil said.
