Atlantic City woman crashed fleeing repossession with her children, police say

An Atlantic City woman was arrested after she allegedly crashed a vehicle while fleeing a repossession with her young children.

Taquanda Roberts, 32, was arguing with a tow truck driver when Officer Kenlyn Johnson responded to the scene at 1:34 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Kevin Fair said.

While the officer was verifying information, Roberts got into the 2014 white Ford wagon and sped away, according to the report.

She went onto the sidewalk, striking a parked car and then ordered her children into the vehicle. the number of children and their ages were not immediately available.

Officer Bryan Victoria-Garcia ordered Roberts out, but instead she sped off, Fair said.

Roberts then struck another vehicle with a woman and her four children ages 1 to 10 inside, according to the report.

Roberts ran from the crash and was later found by Officer Christopher Dodson.

All of those involved in the crash were treated at the scene by medical personnel, Fair said.

Roberts is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, eluding and criminal mischief. She also was cited for 14 motor vehicle violations, court records show.

She was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where she appeared from via video for her first court appearance Monday.

Roberts was told she a motion was filed to detain her. That hearing is set for Wednesday.
