Pedestrian fatally struck in Atlantic City

  • News

Atlantic City police are investigating after a man was found dead more than an hour after he was apparently struck by a car early Friday.
A Galloway Township woman called police around 4:30 a.m., saying she was driving west on Route 30, when she thought she struck something, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
She said she wasn't sure due to the foggy conditions.
The 53-year-old woman continued home and then called police, according to the report.
Officer Joseph Bereheiko checked the area for signs of a crash.
After more than an hour, he found a shoe near mile marker 54, Fair said.
The body of a man was then found in the marsh.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. His identity is not yet known at this time.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Officer Bereheiko with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however, toxicology results are pending.
