Atlantic City native dies in Bridgeton shooting, two others wounded

  • News

An Atlantic City native was killed in a shooting in Bridgeton on Monday afternoon.
Shaheed Little, 31, was shot along with two others at about 3:43 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of South Avenue, officials said.
Little, who was known as "Hom," was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man and woman were wounded and are in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. Their names were not released.
Little was a brilliant man who could have worked on Wall Street, defense attorney Durann Neil wrote in a post honoring his former client.
"Hom was extremely bright, honorable and one of the guys who told me to keep breaking the stereotypes," Neil said. "But for our culture, Hom would have been on Wall Street. Our culture has to change."
Little, whose address is listed as Sicklerville, was one of four people shot in another deadly shooting more than a decade ago.
Shaddiy Dixon, 20, was killed less than 24 hours after getting out of prison. Little, also 20 at the time, was also wounded.
It's a cycle that needs to stop, Neil said.
"The reason many are in jail or dead is because of our culture and stereotypes that covet fake street myths and lead our youth to believe that you are lame if you become successful," he said. "Or (that) you have to rap, sell drugs or be an athlete to be your own man. I realize many of my clients are intelligent but misled because of their environment and our culture."

Anyone with information about Little's killing is asked to call Bridgeton Police Detective Sgt. Kenneth Leyman at 609-381-1225 or Detective Sgt. Ryan Breslin of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-207-2738.
