A Manahawkin man is jailed in a head-on crash that critically injured two Pineland Regional High School teens in Little Egg Harbor Township.
Michael Pillarella, 26, was heading north on Radio Road at about 9:45 Saturday night when he failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the southbound lane, striking a vehicle with two juveniles inside, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
The two girls were airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where they were listed in critical condition.
Pillarella was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Trauma Unit, where his blood was drawn. Results are still pending, Billhimer said.
Pillarella was initially issued summonses for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.
An ongoing investigation led by the Prosecutor's Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and Little Egg police led to the additional charges.
He was arrested Monday, and remains in the Ocean County jail.
The teens were heading out for frozen yogurt when the crash happened.
GoFundMe pages have been set up for both teens.
