A Galloway Township woman who drove home before telling police she may have hit something with her car is now charged with vehicular homicide.
Carmen Ruiz called police after returning to her Galloway home, saying she thought she hit something while driving west on Route 30, but wasn’t sure due to the foggy conditions, according to information released at the time.
Her identity wasn’t released at the time.
More than an hour later, an Atlantic City officer found a shoe near mile marker 54. Miller’s body was then found in the marsh.
The investigation revealed Ruiz used numerous medications that caused a state of intoxication and impaired her ability to operate a motor vehicle, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday, after she was arrested.
She is additionally charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Ruiz, now 55, is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
