Man wanted in shoplifting, assault of EHT officer

  • News

A shoplifting suspect is wanted after he allegedly injured an Egg Harbor Township officer while fleeing the scene Sunday.

Police were called to the CVS on Tilton Road on Sunday for a shoplifting in progress, Lt. Larry Graham said.

Sgt. Brett Fair arrived and confronted the man as he left the store, according to the report. Employees followed behind, identifying him as the suspect, and saying that there was a woman with him who was still inside.

The man, later identified as Anthony Colon, ran to his vehicle, which was still running, according to the report.

Fair tried to detain him, but was pinned between the open door of his vehicle and the door frame as Colon sped away, Graham said.

Fair was able to free himself and fell into a grassy area of the parking lot, according to the report.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken into custody.

Colon, 29, is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, eluding arrest, resisting arrest and assault by auto, along with more than a dozen driving offenses, including driving without a license and fictitious plates.

He already had an active warrant in a shoplifting from August, court records show. There is also a pending drug case that includes receiving stolen property from July.

Anyone with information about Colon’s whereabouts is asked to call police at (609) 927-5200.
