Vineland officer charged with sexually explicit images of children

A Vineland police officer is charged with possessing multiple images of minors engaged in sexually explicit acts, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Christopher Ortiz, 38, of Estell Manor, allegedly uploaded the images to the Verizon Cloud Service.

The Prosecutor's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received a tip from the service's company, Synchronoss Technologies.

The company reported that there were 76 files showing the sexual exploitation of children, according to the charges.

Detectives reviewed the content, and found males and females who appeared to be younger than 18 engaged in prohibited sexual acts, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Verizon said the number was registered to Ortiz.

He was arrested uploaded was arrested March 21, without incident. He does not show up in any local jails.

Ortiz was never at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, jail records show.
