Three of four teens who escaped a juvenile detention center last year are now indicted as adults.
Michael Huggins, Raymir Lampkin and Stephine Woodley were indicted Thursday on several counts, including escape, robbery, assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a rifle and possession of a community gun. They also face conspiracy charges on several of the counts.
On Nov. 15, 2017, the three along with Donovan Nickerson assaulted a worker at the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City and fled in another worker’s car. One of the workers was hospitalized.
The teens crashed the car and ran as police were pursuing them, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
They then allegedly stole a rifle from an Egg Harbor City home.
Several hours later, Woodley, Lampkin and Nickerson were captured in Bridgeton.
Huggins — who already was charged as an adult in a Cumberland County homicide — was arrested the next day near the Carolina Village Apartments in Atlantic City.
He was allegedly armed at the time, and resisted arrest. His mugshot showed his right eye swollen shut and bruises.
Huggins, now 19, of Bridgeton, is additionally charged with resisting arrest by force, unlawful possession of a handgun and tampering with physical evidence.
Lampkin, 16, already has an adult charge in a shooting that wounded a man in Atlantic City. He was on an ankle bracelet at the time of that incident.
Woodley, now 18, is from Brotmanville, Salem County.
It was not immediately clear why Nickerson — who is not named in the indictment — is not charged in the adult case.
